Allahabad officially known as Prayagraj, is a holy city , highly regarded as a historical and religious rich city of Uttar Pradesh. Allahabad is also known as ‘sangam city’ because it lies near ‘ Trivani Sangam’ where three rivers coincide i.e. Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati (which is no more visible) , it is also known as the city of ‘prime minister’s’ because this city has given 7 out of 15 prime ministers after independence. They were Jawaharlal Nehru , Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Gulzarilal Nanda, Vishwanath Pratap Singh and Chandra Shekhar.
It is said that Akbar was so much impressed and fascinated by seeing beauty of this place that he ordered to rename it as Illahabad or ‘Abode of God’ in 1575 , Later Shahjahan change it to Allahabad . And yes it is a beautiful place and after paint my city campaign it is looking so stunning like a newly established city . It’s beautiful pink evening seems like some artist is showing his wonderful talent and one more thing to note before you plane to visit , is that Allahabad is also one of the hottest place of Uttar Pradesh!

Trivani Sangam is the junction point of three rivers – Ganga , Yamuna and Saraswati (which is no more visible). You can say that Trivani Sangam is the epicenter of tourism of Allahabad . Trivani Sangam is one of the holy and pilgrim place and has attained extremely high religious importance. It is one of the place where the Maha Kumbh Mela take place after every 12 year’s. Sangam it’s self is also a beautiful and peaceful place to visit and during winters when it’s the time of arrival of Siberian bird’s you will experience an extraordinary beauty of nature . . If you will see carefully or if you go in the middle of it you will be able to see brownish Ganga meeting with slightly greenish Yamuna . According to Hindu mythology by taking bath in Sangam you can wash off all your sins and free you from the cycle of rebirth .
It is laying at Lukarganj , this is also one of the most popular visited place in Allahabad. It is the evidence of stunning Mughal Architecture . This garden is the largest historical garden in which the tombs of Prince khushro , elder son of Emporer Jahangir , Sultana Begum mother of Khushro and Sultan Nithar Begam sister of Khushro. Jahangir made this in memory of Khushro. In Khushro Bagh you will witness Mughal Architecture with combination of the beauty of nature . Khusro Bagh garden is also famous for its Guava and mangoes.
Bade Hanuman Mandir
It is located near Akbar Fort .This is an unique temple in the city which is also a place of attraction because here you can see a huge idol of sleeping Lord Hanuman which is 20 feet long and 8 feet wide . People believe that lord Hanuman come here and rest , that’s why the idol of lord Hanuman is in laying down position . A geographical quirk of this temple is that it gets submerged in water when the river Ganges is in full flow. According to mythology, it is believed that the rise in the Ganges’ water level is because the river wants to touch the feet Lord Hanuman.
All Saints Cathedral
It is a 19th century church and popularly known as ‘ Patthar Girija’. This is one of the city’s most famous cathedrals and a revered sacred space among Allahabad’s. This church is spread across the are of 1250 square meters and the entire cathedral is built in Gothic style, remarkable for the intricate work and designs done on the marble altar. One of the most prized buildings from colonial India. During Christmas, they organize fair’s and also the church is decorated so beautifully. This place attracts so many people during christmas.
In the reign of Akbar in 1583 this massive fort was built. The fort is located near the bank of Yamuna where it meets Ganga. According to Archaeological survey of India this monument is monument of importance for India . Now it is occupied by the Indian Army but some part of this fort is open for visitors. Visitors can visit Ashokan Pillar and Saraswati Koop, the source of the Saraswati river and Jodhabai Palace. The Ashoka pillar of polished sandstone stands 10.6 meters high, dating back to 232 B.C. The pillar has many edicts and a Persian inscription of Emperor Jahangir in scripted in it,commemorating his accession to the throne.
The Patalpuri temple and the much revered Akshaya Vat or immortal Banyan tree are also great attractions for the tourists.
Alfred Park / Chandra Shekhar Azad Park
You will find many parks in Allahabad and the famous and largest park is Alfred Park or Azad Park. At the center of park you will observe a colossal statue of George V and Victoria. During freedom struggle it gain more popularity because encounter between the British police and Indian revolutionaries took place here. When one of India’s most famous revolutionaries Chandra Shekhar Azad got cornered while he was trying to escape. An hour-long fire exchange followed, with Azad opting to shoot himself rather than surrender his cause. After independence the park was named as Azad Park. A statue of Chandra Shekhar Azad now stand at the place of his death. It’s a beautiful park full or greenery, people also come here for jogging and doing exercises.
Allahabad is also called the city of Prime minister’s. Because out of 15 prime ministers after independence 7 of them were from Allahabad. Anand Bhawan is the resident of our former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru family. This is now converted into a museum showcasing various artifacts and articles of the era of independence. Motilal Nehru personally designed this mansion.
When the prior residence of Nehru’s family Swaraj Bhavan started to use as an office of Indian National Congress, a new Nehru residence was designed by Motilal Nehru, a notable independence movement leader. The house is beautifully adorned with the wooden furniture imported from China, Europe and various artifacts from all over the world. A planetarium is also there, you can enjoy an 3D view of space.
It can found inside of Azad Park . This is one of the national level museum of India . It gives a true nature of history, culture, heritage and independence movement of India through the amazing displays of artifacts related to the art, history, archaeology, architecture, environment and literature. This place is famous for the rock sculptures, the miniature paintings from Rajasthan, terracotta from Kaushambi, literary and artwork from Bengal School of Art. Beginning from the historic era of Harappan civilization, the artifacts of the medieval period, the carvings from the Gupta period and Khajuraho, to the Independence struggle of India against the British, Allahabad museum is a treasure of Indian history.
